These vases are all hand blown with a graduated internal coloured glass casing. After cooling a variety of graded diamond grinding wheels are used to deeply carve the relief pattern into the glass. This process takes many days & once complete the carved surface is brought to a high finish by immersing in hot hydrofluoric acid.
Due to the nature of the manufacturing process & the sheer quantity of hand working involved in making these pieces they are only made to commission & may vary slightly in colour and pattern from illustrated. A few pieces are currently available 'off the shelf' and are indicated as such.
This series of works was inspired by a ferry journey I took a few years ago from Auckland, New Zealand to the small island of Waiheke for a friends wedding. The sea & dramatic light playing over the water was spectacular & I was determined to find a way to capture the essence of the experience.
