Sand casting is a process whereby liquid glass is poured into a negative impression made in sand. Once the glass has cooled from 1160 Centigrade it solidifies and may be removed from the sand.

Lamp worked inclusions can be incorporated into casts for sophisticated designs, or can be incorporated more simply by using thin copper. Colour may be included through the addition of powders or frits.

The project illustrated here was photographed at the Glass Furnace in Turkey.
