The National Glass Centre Glass Studio was commissioned to produce a series of three cast glass works for the newly refurbished Children's' hospital. Accessed over three floors leading from the hospitals spectacular atrium, the works were situated at the entrance to specialist children's units & clearly visible from the main atrium.

To reflect the close interpersonal bonds that develop between children as patients, nurses and consultants it was decided that the hands of real patients and carers should be cast in incredible detail and immortalised as life casts into the 27, 48% lead crystal panels. The background of each glass panel contains decorative three dimensional textures created by representations of texts taken from dozens of get-well messages and cards. The 27 panels weigh in at over 350kg. The project took nearly 9 months to complete.
